North Bay, which takes its name from its position on the shore of Lake Nipissing, is one of the major transportation centres for Northern Ontario. Located approximately 330 kilometres (205 miles) north of Toronto, Ontario, North Bay has a current population of over 50,000. Incorporated as a town in 1891, North Bay is frequently referred to as the “Gateway to Northern Ontario.”
