Lake Nipissing, as can be seen above when walking along the Nipissing University trail, is the fifth-largest lake in Ontario, excluding the Great Lakes. It is approximately 910 square kilometres (565 square miles), but unusually shallow, with an average depth of about 10 metres (33 feet). The Lake’s name means “little water” in the native language of the Algonquin Indians.
