The Gooderham Building

First commissioned in 1891 by George Gooderham to house the head offices of his Gooderham & Worts distilling company, the famous Flatiron Building, also know as the Gooderham Building, was completed in 1892 at a cost of $18,000. Wedged in between Wellington and Front Street East, the Gooderham Building, which was commissioned to David Roberts Jr. by George Gooderham, pre-dates New York’s more famous Flatiron Building by about a decade. In 1957, the Gooderham estate sold the Flatiron Building and in November of 1975 it was designated a historic site. More recently in the late-90s, the building underwent a major restoration, and is arguably one of the most photographed buildings in Toronto.
