Located near the lakefront next to the CN Tower, the Air Canada Centre is the place for events in Toronto, whether they are athletic or theatrical. The large dome on top is kept closed in winter and opened in the summer. The 61,781 square metres (665,000 square feet) centre is home to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors and the Rock Lacrosse teams. Groundbreaking started in 1997, with the first game being played in 1999. Depending on the event, nearly 20,000 spectators can sit in the arena.
