Parliament Hill

Parliament Hill, bounded on the north by the Ottawa River, on the east by the Rideau Canal, on the south by Wellington Street, and on the west by a service road near the Supreme Court, sits on the cliffs overlooking the Ottawa River in downtown Ottawa. The grounds of Parliament Hill measures 112,360 square meters (1,209,433 square feet). The current Parliament Buildings were built between 1865 and 1927 - the West Block was built in 1865, the East Block was opened in two stages in 1867 and 1910, and the original Centre Block was completed in 1878 and rebuilt in 1930 after most of it was ruined in a fire. The Library of Parliament was opened in 1876, and was the only piece of the Centre Block that wasn’t destroyed in 1916.
