Masts of the Tall Ship Europa

Halifax Harbour is a large natural harbour on the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia. It is considered to be the second largest harbour in the world (that is ice free), and the first largest natural harbour. Nova Scotia is the place to be in late July, when more than 150 tall ships will fill Halifax Harbour for various premiere events, like tall ships racing. The “special purpose” sail training ship Europa was built in 1911 and in 1994 she was fully restored as a barque (three mast rigged ship). Towering above the decks are the 3 lofty masts, of which 2 are over 5.5 metres (18 feet) in length.
