The Open Road

Named after the famous navigator and explorer, John Cabot, who first sighted Cape Breton Island on June 23, 1497, the Cabot Trail is often referred to as one of the most beautiful drives in North America. The trail, which is 298 kilometres (185 miles) long, brings you around Cape Breton Island through numerous communities and constant breath-taking scenery. While it can occasionally be foggy on the island, when the sky is clear, the sights are amazing. The northern section of the Cabot Trail passes through Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The western and eastern sections follow the rugged coastline, providing spectacular views of the ocean.
