Science World

The Science World ‘golf ball’, which is actually a geodesic dome designed by American inventor R. Buckminster Fuller, was constructed for Expo ’86 and served as the Expo Centre during the world fair. The building, with a total area of 10,220 square metres (110,007 square feet) and a volume of 36,790 cubic metres (1,299,227 cubic feet), boats a total exhibit area of 4,275 square metres (46,016 square feet). The outside of the dome is made of of 766 triangles of aluminium which are illuminated by 391 lights. Inside Science World, there are hundreds of interactive exhibits in five distinct galleries including at least five, live science demonstrations every day. The dome also houses the giant, wrap-around OMNIMAX® theatre and a high-def cinema.
