Skeena River

Prince Rupert is located on British Columbia’s northwest coast and is the world’s third largest ice free harbor. Amazingly, Prince Rupert is closer to Japan than Vancouver. The area of Prince Rupert has an amazing history and was originally dreamed of by Charles Melville Hayes who owned the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Company. He was enchanted with the deep harbor and the potential the island exuded for trade and as a port. However, when he was accumulating money to make his dream a reality, he lost his life on the RSS Titanic. Despite his death, Prince Rupert found its way onto the map as an important world harbor for trade exports and it also boasts a bustling local economy. This is due to the 1980s and individuals getting together and making Hayes’ vision a reality.
