The northwest of British Columbia features truly beautiful campgrounds, most of which are easily reached from the main highways. Lakelse Lake Provincial Park and its popular campground is located near Mount Layton Hot Springs, between Terrace and Kitimat. Lakelse Lake offers good swimming beaches, a shaded picnic area, and a hiking trail through an old-growth forest of towering spruce, cedar, and hemlock. The well-known hot springs complex is in the valley bottom east of Lakelse Lake. There is a large supply of hot water here, and one of the numerous springs has the hottest spring water in Canada. The pools are open year round.
