Mountain Peaks
Cassiar is a now closed asbestos mine in Northern B.C. The once bustling mining town is now gone except for a few remaining buildings and some marks on the landscape. The surrounding hills of Cassiar tower upwards of 2.4 kilometres ASL (8000 feet above sea level) and provide spectacular views. Many of the hills bear scars of mining activity in a once busy region. The town of Cassiar was located at the bottom of McDame Mountain and there is still a tramline to the top of the hill. The last house was moved out of Cassiar in 2005.
