Jasper National Park is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies which spans 10,878 km² (4,200 mi²). Numerous waterfalls are located throughout the park, with Sunwapta Falls and Athabasca Falls among the most notable. The Sunwapta River is a major branch of the Athabasca River in Jasper National Park. The flowing together of the two rivers lies three kiloemetres (1.9 miles) west of Sunwapta Falls. Sunwapta then turns southeast where it is followed by the Icefields Parkway past the Columbia Ice Field where it finally peters out at the Banff National Park boundary.
