Cliffs of Castle Mountain

Its high, steep sides and general fortress shape inspired this massif’s original name, Castle Mountain. After the Second World War, it was renamed Mt. Eisenhower in honor of the Supreme Allied Commander. In this picture, you can see Castle Cliffs rising up to Eisnehower Peak. The patch of vegetation to the right, just above the treeline, is known to locals as the “Eisenhower Putting Green.” The mountain is located in Banff National Park on Bow Valley Parkway, about midway between Banff and Lake Louise.
